F-35A Lightning II for Norway
Norway is a very rich country, which, thanks to its oil wealth, does not need to worry about its finances. Thanks to her wealth, she can afford to buy the most advanced weapons systems. One of these systems is the F-35A Lightning II fighter jet.
Norway plans to purchase 52 F-35A Lightning II fighter jets for a total of $9.9 billion. In addition to the machines themselves, the price also includes an extensive ground support system for fighter operation and training systems (advanced simulators).
So far, the Norwegian government has authorized the purchase of ten cars. The first two machines are to be delivered in 2015, the other two in 2016. Vehicles for the Norwegian army have already been manufactured, but remain in the United States. The first Norwegian pilots will also train in the USA.
Starting in 2017, Norway will purchase 6 aircraft per year. The last delivery is scheduled for 2024. However, Norway will not pay for all the planes at once, but will always order six F-35A fighters every year. Each purchase must be approved annually by the Norwegian Parliament.
Norway also demanded, as a member country of the JSF program, the integration of the Norwegian Joint Strike Missile (JSM) into the F-35A Lightning II fighter system. The American manufacturer has promised to integrate the JSM anti-submarine/anti-ship missile into fighters from the Block 4 version. The goal is not only to integrate the JSM missile into the armament of the Norwegian F-35, but also to offer this missile to other F-35 operators.
It should be noted that the Royal Norwegian Air Force currently has 57 F-16AM/BM fighters. Although these are upgraded fighters at the level of F-16C/ D Block 50 machines, the oldest machines are already 34 years old. Before the last F-35 fighters join the Norwegian army, the oldest Norwegian F-16 aircraft will be exactly 45 years old. The F-35 A Lightning II fighter jet program is the most important weapons project in history. The United States and its allies plan to remove more than 3,100 modern F-35 fighter jets.
